This place was the most PERMANENTLY traumatizing thing i have ever experienced.
i went to newport academy in bethlehem, ct for a total of 61 days. going here is one of the worst decisions i have EVER made.
i was neglected, uncared for, and practically untreated. i was admitted for depression, anxiety, bpd, etc. and was released while struggling with all these things PLUS a new PTSD event!! i have been out for over 3 months and i still have constant flashbacks and nightmares.
i hope someday in the future, this place is shut the *** down. nobody deserves the horrid treatment from this place. if being neglected and left to deal with everything alone is how you get better, then sure, itd be good for you.
the food is disgusting, and if you dont like it, theres no other options and you starve. the staff are rude and gossip behind your back/violate HIPAA rules, the clinical treatment team arent there on weekends so if youre struggling on saturday or sunday you basically have to suck it up, you only get one 5 min phone call per day, and if you talk negatively about the place and tell your parents what theyre doing to you they will cut the call, i was called delusional by my therapist, i received death threats from other girls there and they did absolutely nothing, some girls there were full blown drug addicts and going through withdrawals and wanted to kill everyone around them, i was bullied and they didnt care, when my brother attempted suicide while i was there they didnt let me have any extra phone call time when i wanted to talk to him, any time i didnt feel good or was sick they didnt give a damn, they practically romanticized drugs, sexual assault/rape, self harm, suicide, and more, staff members picked favorites and gave them extra stuff like extra phone call time and higher-up staff did nothing to stop it, youre forced to go offsite even if you dont want to and if you dont, its counted as a refusal, staff make inappropriate/triggering jokes, if you do anything wrong you get isolated (timeout), youre cut off from the entire world other than 5 minutes to talk to your mom or dad once a day, theyre mentally and verbally abusive, the staff are under-trained and theres basically no requirements to work there other than a small background check, they gaslight you, they tell you youll only be there for 2-6 weeks when in reality 95% of girls stay for 2-3 months unless your insurance cuts or your parents pull you (i was pulled at 61 days but they gave me completion bc my mom threatened them), you forget what real life is like without locked doors, *** tests every 3 days and never being alone, some of the girls are literal psychopaths and they mess with your head, they put you on medication that numbs you out so you dont remember anything, there arent any family visits, theyre homophobic, I COULD LITERALLY GO ON FOREVER.
theres so much more than what i just listed.
if youre planning on going here or sending your kid here, please, for the love of god, dont do it. i have horrible PTSD from this place and it ruined my life.

Verified ReviewerAbused at Newport academy
I was at Newport for almost three weeks and I can 1000 percent say that I left with more problems than before coming. My parents admitted me into this program for my obsessive compulsive disorder and social anxiety hoping that this place would be a good fit for me.
I knew the second I talked to the girls that this place was going to be horrible and I was right. I was bullied not only by the girls, but the staff as well. One staff literally called me ugly to my face and told me that my music was horrible. This is the same staff that used physical force to get a granola bar out of my hand because it was 20 minutes over food time and ended up scratching me with her nail. When I told her she scratched me she laughed and got the residential manager to "put me in my place" even though I explained that this specific staff member was bullying me and making fun of my compulsions.
There is no one higher up. There are supervisors, but unless you butter up to the staff the super visors won't listen to you whatsoever. Staff are allowed to refuse snack, phone calls, and bathroom privileges depending on how they feel about you. I was locked out of my bathroom every night because I had low blood sugar in the morning and struggled to get out of bed.
I also was not given proper medical care. When I did pass out on the ground they accused me of lying and wouldn't let me lie down despite the fact I literally blacked out.
Also girls threatened to beat me up multiple times and nothing was done about it. I was called ugly, disgusting, a freak and so many names by the girls and the staff would gossip. There is almost no requirements to work there, they literally will take people off the street. When talking to staff about the problems they would say "your a child i don't have to listen to you" no one cared about me.Everyone was awful and I'm worse now than I was coming in.

Verified Buyer |Discharged my daughter over hearsay and horrible customer service
My daughter was discharged because another girl said she put hands on her, supposedly. Well there was no proof, no marks, no witnesses, and it wasn't even reported for hours.
Actually, my daughter was being bullied for days prior and nothing was being done about it. I tried to contact her therapist that day to see what happened and to see if she had talked to my daughter, but she would not respond to me.
She was discharged/kicked out on a Sunday and I had no contact for four days till I finally called them. They gave me no discharge paper work, or any advice. They didn't bring in any therapist to talk to my daughter or the other girl to find out if it actually happened or to see if they were ok.
I feel like they failed my daughter in so many ways.
They should have brought in a therapist to see what actually happened and to see if she was ok. She was still a patient, and she was accused of something like a criminal. My daughter is not perfect, but she is not violent either.
Since then I have finally got a hold of medical records, but they still won't send over information to any other places because a person is out of the office. That was six days ago.
I was told it could be done in 1 day. So, my daughter still is being hindered my Newport Academy by the medical records department.
The customer service is horrible. I cannot believe after she was discharged 4 days later I had to call someone to get discharge paperwork and just to talk to someone. It was only 4 lines long and pitiful at that, and they wanted me to sign it.
Another thing that bother me about the program that my daughter told me is that they would hardly ever let them go outside.
They had a beautiful acre fenced in lot. The staff were on their phones a lot, so the girls watched TV a lot, she said, especially on the weekends or played Nintendo Switch.
I am kind of worried why this happened so much.
I would highly recommend looking at other places other than Newport Academy for your family members and friends. This was a huge mistake for us and I hope other people dont make the same mistake we made.

Terrible , disorganized mess for my daughter
My daughter who does not have a substance abuse issue but was suffering from severe ocd, which they claim they treat. They did not offer the therapy they claimed (DBT, EMDR) no exercise group schedules, no adventures in adventure therapy.
Online equine therapy! What? Food was awful. Unstable and untrained staff.
Limited care of nurses on staff. No hot water for 5 days, pool broken for over a month. My daughter scratched her legs up, and rather then contacting skilled staff, they called a crisis team involving 2 large men that came to her room after she calmed down, handcuffed her and took her to the hospital as a 5150 when she never threatened to kill herself. She was discharged 5 hours later.
CrossFit was only added after complaining, along with DBT and EMDR. They were supposed to find an ocd specialist which never happened. The home instead of being therapeutic was negative and disorganized from the beginning. My daughter had ptsd after her 36 day stent there and came home worse then when she left.
She said everyone that she met there left in worse shape then when she came. Oh and they are opening MORE houses! When they cant run the ones they have with the qualified staff they claim to have. This is 100% about the money and if your kid leaves, no worries, there is another family waiting in line to take their spot.
So why change? Now we have no services when she decided she could no longer stay there and we are starting from stage 1 for another qualified facility

Verified Reviewer |Please do not send your kids to Newport academy!!!
I sent my daughter to newport in Connecticut in September 2017 after two days of her being there the communication cut off and no way to contact them. We live in Texas and I was terrified that something was happening after my daughter called crying saying that there where girls wanting fight her .
I tried to contact them several times by email and there main number which no one answers you have to leave a message . After two weeks and virtually no one contacting me I went and removed her from Newport and placed her in a treatment center in Malibu California where she is doing excellent !!!
The most phones calls I received from them was when i told them i was coming to get her they tried in every way to keep her there .I am so glad I listen to my gut feeling and went and removed her .she was receiving little to no counseling there and there where some days she didn't even eat and it was never reported to me .My daughter was in worst shape then when i left her . Please please read all the reviews on this place and you will see the same things over and over .

Thank you ! I was planning on sending my daughter there Dec 26th, and this was sooo helpful!
At 10,000 a week, 90 days tx .
No way Jose ! We are looking elsewhere .
Wish I had found this review before we sent our child there. He was only there for less than five days, but spent about half that time in a crowded ER when he was supposed to be treated for his extreme social anxiety disorder. We live 2967 miles away so Newport was going to let him sit in the ER waiting room until I could get there the following afternoon
